Have you started trying to locate all of the necessary documents to file your taxes? A few receipts in your desk drawer? A few more on your dresser? What about that pile of 'stuff' on top of the fridge? Crammed in the dash of your car? You know the scenario. Now is the time you realize how disorganized your important, financial documents are.
Filing our Income Tax Returns is generally not something we enjoy, however, if you are organized it can be a lot less painful and frustrating. If you're starting this year without any preparation, it could take a considerable amount of time to locate all required documents. Chances are, there will be one or two pieces of missing receipts that you can't get your hands on. This can cost you money and time - especially if you locate them a week or two later and run them into your tax professional. What if you miss out on a tax benefit you are entitled to but can't find have 'that piece of paper' you need? Very few of us...
Don't forget that January is officially Get Organized month! I'm sure you've been busy cleaning and organizing lots of spaces in your home and office. Maybe you've thought a lot about it, but haven't quite yet 'gotten around to it yet'?? Not to worry! Today we're sharing a list of our top organizing products to help get you organized. There are numerous, wonderful items to help you get organized, however, today we are going to focus on the top products we absolutely love.
Bins & Baskets
We can't say enough about baskets and bins. They can be used in laundry rooms, kitchens, basements, kids rooms, bedrooms, living room, EVERY room! Larger, plastic bins are great for storing seasonal items, clothing, blankets, etc. We prefer using see-thru bins so you can tell at a glance what's in them – saving you from pulling each one down and opening it until you find what you're looking for. Labelling your bins – which we strongly suggest – will save you lots of time and energy...
We all do it. We collect something. Pretty pillows? Anything with a cat picture on it? Cozy blankets? Mugs? Vases? Table cloths? Napkin rings? You name it, one of us collects it. Chances are, we've been collecting our whole lives without being aware of it. Personally, I was obsessed with Barbie Dolls and had to have each new one as it was available; and their matching outfits; and shoes; and purses. My brother loved toy cars. Didn't matter the style, colour, or model. The more the better. There were boxes and boxes of toy cars in his bedroom. However, I can't say too much about his collection considering I had my Barbie collection in a suitcase. There was no way on earth it would fit into one of those teeny, tiny doll cases!
The point is, most of us collect without even being aware of it. More often than not, the things we collect become clutter. They generally don't serve a real purpose, we don't use them, we like...
Did you know that January is National Get Organized Month? Indeed it is and what perfect timing! As we move forward into 2017 with our resolutions fresh in our minds, it's the perfect time of year to make a promise to ourselves that THIS is the year to organize our homes, our offices, our cars, and even our little fur babies. In fact, with determination and a little guidance from us, you will learn how to organize and prioritize, save money and time, and best of all - learn how to love the space you're living in with a lot less stress. What a perfect and obtainable goal as we celebrate 2017 with a fresh, new outlook on life!
Let's start with a few questions that will help guide you throughout the entire process of organizing and decluttering your home. I've referred to it many times and keep a copy on my desk next to me so I can always stay on track. Even professional organizers need a little reminder every now and then!
Ever feel like you can't quite seem to find the time to write out your to-do list and, more importantly, check it off?
I was recently going through some of my tasks, and realized that some were missing from my to-do list. Given that I am always on the go, it's not always easy to jot down thoughts as they come to me - even with my list template which I print for the week and try to carry everywhere I go!
So, I did what anyone in the 21st century would do - I downloaded an app for that!
If you're feeling like you need an extra hand to try and juggle your daily tasks, I highly recommend Wunderlist. I downloaded this app on my iPhone (for free, I might add), and was instantly creating lists for different components of my life.
Wunderlist is great for building lists and creating reminders but, what I really love about it, is the ability to collaborate with others. This takes the functionality from a standard iPhone or Android app to the next level. I am able to create a list that...
In today's iPhone/Android age, it is no surprise that there is literally an app for everything. Whether it's something to keep you entertained or stay organized, there is just about any type of application imaginable out there.
Many of our clients are surprised to know that our services include office organizing - and we get a lot of customers with bustling businesses and home offices on our roster. One key way that we can help to organize your chaos is by implementing ideas and tips/tricks to help with the paper clutter!
While we all love a good, clean, organized filing system (really, who doesn't?!) we also understand today's business needs. With so many people on the go - and doing business in unconventional locations (coffee shops, touch-down temporary offices, in-home consultations, etc), it's important to have a solution that can follow you and your clients almost anywhere. This week, we are taking a look at PDF Expert - the app that lets you create, m...
For those who aren’t familiar with the word pegboard, it is often described as "that thin wood with lots of little holes that holds hooks." It used to be found mainly in the basement where tools and small packages of screws would be hanging on it from a hook, or out in the garage with an assortment of lawn implements attached to it with bungee cords. The days of pegboard being relegated to the depths of the basement or hidden out in the garage are over! Pegboard has finally risen to its rightful place alongside home decor and organizational aids.
Pegboard can be used in literally any room in your house. Craft rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, hallways, and yes, basements and garages. It is one of the most versatile and inexpensive decorating/organizing tools available. No longer kept unadorned and plain, pegboard is now painted, stenciled, framed, and proudly displayed as home decor. The question is no longer “Why would you use pegboard in your house?” It is now...
As you know, we just love staying organized and on top of things here at Organize My Chaos. We use these lists in our daily work and personal lives, and thought we'd share them with the world!

Have you noticed the beautiful fall colours outside? The golds, browns, and spectacular crimson coloured leaves? Aren’t they gorgeous? They remind me of the colour of spices... warm, fragrant, and enticing spices - and spices remind me of cooking, which makes me think of the kitchen, which in turn reminds me I haven’t cleaned up my spice cabinet for quite a while! Do you regularly check your spices for expiration dates?
We always hear about Spring Cleaning, but what about Fall Cleaning? It’s a perfect time to get organized for the Holidays and clean up from the good ol’ days of summer. I’m going to start with - you guessed it - my spice cabinet. Now is the perfect time to take out all of the spices, give them a quick wipe down, and check those expiration dates (spices do lose their potency, over time, so best to discard all those old ones!). While I have the spices out on my counter top, I’m going to wipe down the inside of the cabinet and organize t...
